Paris Journal Cover

When I was at WalMart last week I picked up some composition journals for $.40 knowing I have some great scrapbook paper in my stash to use up. I carry a small one in my purse that lists what stamps, punches, etc. that I have so I don't duplicate. I did want to have a bigger one though that I can keep track more easily, and when I see projects that I want to do, I can check to see if I need to go shopping *s*. I know, any excuse I can get to shop!! If you'd like to create something similar, I have listed some fairly simple directions.

Composition Notebook
Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge (I used hard coat)
Lots of stamps and inks
Sharpie
Scissors
Nail File

I traced the shape of the notebook on the back of my scrapbook paper and tried my best to cut a straight line. Podge the cover, make sure to get the edges good, and press on the paper. I didn't use a roller or credit card, just my hands to smooth it out because the paper is a pretty thick piece. Now to the fun part, the stamps. I tried to match some inks to the background, and then for the text I used black. I went slightly crazy with the stamps. I ran a nail file over the edges to make sure they were all even. I used two colors of distressing ink (Tim Holtz's Antique Linen & Tea Dye) and black ink to go around the edges. I'm sure there are a "few" scrappers that would cringe at the way I use the distressing ink. I dab a wadded up tissue on the ink then rub or dab it onto the paper. Yes, I know there prolly is a real way you are supposed to do it, but what fun would that be?! When I was finished I realized that it looked unfinished around the edges were the paper was Podged on, so I edged around with a black sharpie. Coat with at least one layer of Podge, but I will do two when I make sure that I'm done playing with the stamps =)

Easy Keyring

I was looking for something simple to make to give to my niece as she finally got around to getting her driver's license (she's 18). Since she only has her car and house key on her keyring, she mentioned it looked silly without anything else on there. Not a problem, I can fix that *s*

Bag of keychains from the Dollar Tree
Jewelry wire
Alphabet beads
Colored bead(s)
Alphabet wood tiles from Michael's
Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (or any sealant)
Small pliers

The jewelry wire that I used is actually the 3" long stick pin looking (as in I really have no clue the name lol) wire. I put a colored bead on the end, followed by the alphabet beads. The tricky part, since I've actually never wrapped wire before *gasp*, was making the circle and wrapping it around, but I found using 2 sets of pliers really, really helped.

I Podged the wood letter to make it water resistant, then used more wire to create a loop and hook it onto the main attaching loop.

I thought it turned out kinda cute, and best part...it was easy!!

Gravelled "S"

I'm almost done with my beachy display, I'm just adding a few little odds and ends here and there. In other words, I've changed it at least ten times and can't make up my mind! I did know that I needed an "S". Michael's had their large letters that are normally $3.00 on sale 40% off, AND I had this weeks email coupon for an additional 20% off...woot! I thought about covering it in sand, but that wasn't the texture I was looking for. After rooting through my cabinet, I found the perfect thing!!



Large letter, easier to work with a larger size

Gloss Mod Podge

Pea gravel

1" foam brush

Waxed paper



Covered the kitchen counter with the waxed paper and washed up my letter. I painted the "S" in Podge with a really heavy coat and dumped sprinkled my gravel on. Waited an hour, which by the way, kills me. I have NO PATIENCE!! When I tapped the "S" on the counter the extra gravel came off, which is why I used the waxed paper. It creates a nice funnel to put the leftovers back in the container. Added another really heavy coat of Podge and pressed on more gravel. Then there was another wait. Have I mentioned that I'm not good with the waiting part? I did manage to wait til the next day though before I touched it. I haven't sealed it yet because I'm not sure of the best way yet, but I wanted to show it to you! When I put it on the shelf, it added a little color, so I'm very excited!! You could even say it was worth the wait lol.

Watermelon Scroll Frame

Don't anyone faint...I've actually completed a project I started two months ago!! This could be a sign that I might actually accomplish something soon!! I fell in love with Krylon's Watermelon spray paint and have painted a everything in sight few things with it. This frame is from Michael's and only cost a $1 or 2, and I prolly used a percentage off coupon, so I know it was pretty reasonable. It was originally an orange, but alas, it wasn't watermelon. I left the plasticy stuff in the frame to make it easier when I painted, then used a razor blade and cut it out of from under the cardboard backing piece. I was going to just type something up, but I remembered that I had pack of love sentiments printed on velum from JoAnn's. I used the damask print paper that came with the frame for a pretty background. A cheap and easy project, and I'm almost positive that it can be done in a day lol. Thanks for stopping by to look!

New Project

When I was on my way home last night I passed a house with a few things sitting in the yard with a free sign on them. They had put out this awesome boat that just screamed "take me home". Who am I to argue? I have a smaller version downstairs in the outdoorsy themed living room, but this is perfect for the dining room!! I'm so excited =) After I clean it up, I'm thinking about painting it white, then heavely distressing it and draping with a fishing net that I picked up from the Dollar Tree today. The weather just needs to dry out so I can paint *big grins*

If anyone has any wisdom to pass on as this is my first real painting project or an idea of what I could do to it, please comment...I'm all ears!!

Chalkboard Frame

I finally have a chalkboard project!! Ok, it was a really simple one...but gotta start somewhere lol. Just a $1 frame from Michaels and some chalkboard paint, and whoala! I have a captionable frame.

Weathered Frame

So when do you know your project is doomed? From the start or when you're halfway through it and you want to throw it outside? I should have listened to the devil that sits on my shoulder...or my siamese, one in the same really.



Since I'm adding more nautical goodies to my dining room, I bought a few frames at Michael's to paint. Gotta love the $1 price tag!! Since I don't follow directions real well (act surprised will ya), this has more than enough coats of paint on it.



Supplies:



Frame & Brushes

Krylon Bahama Sea (you only need one of the blue paints)

Ceramcoat Tahiti Blue & Craftsmart White acrylic paints

Deco Art Weathered Wood in Medium

Stamps (I used Scrappy Cat - Vacation Swirl)

Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Tea Dye

Mod Podge to seal

(I'm giving you the bad directions first) I'm in a primer mood, so I did spray this one with primer but totally not needed. I really love Krylon's Bahama Sea, so I coated it twice. I painted a layer of white because I forgot the Weathered Wood, remembered, painted that on and realized I should have read the directions. I made the mistake of running the brush over where I had already painted, this was realized when I painted the white and it didn't weather. Ssssoooo...we catch up now with the real directions....



I started with the Tahiti Blue, and then the Weathered Wood. DO NOT go over any of the Weathered Wood, no matter how tempting. Add another coat, whatever, but DO NOT (yes I repeat in big capital letters so you know I'm serious) PAINT SAME SPOT TWICE!! Add your white coat in the same direction as you painted the Weathered Wood and let dry.



Because I cannot leave well enough alone, I did use some stamps, after I Podged. Some will never learn. Didn't come out real clear but I think it adds charm to it *s*.

"D" is for Debbie

I know that I'm supposed to be working on nautical frames, but when I saw this frame over at A Little Tipsy, I knew I had to make one. The taping was ok, but trying to trim it just about drove me nuts. I actually did the frame right after it was posted...as in, get in car, go to Michaels, buy tape. Then I decided I wanted to have a beautiful aqua flower on it...do you know aqua isn't in season?! I have been to my fair share of places that sell flowers over the last month. Bought every other flower, why I don't know, I'll need them someday *s*. I settled on chopping up a white gerbera and 2 fuschia ones that look similar. And when I say chopped, I mean get the wire cutters out and try not to get your fingers in there chopped. What was left of the flowers I used E6000 to glue onto the frame and used a large bottle of lotion to hold them down til they sat up. I really like the way it turned out, but I really wanted an aqua flower =) The best part though was I hung it from a hook in the kitchen to take the pic in the light and forgot about it. Hubby comes home, looks at it, and keeps walking. I think I've lost the art of surprising him.

Starfish Frames

Since I'm working on updating my beachy stuff in the dining room to add more white and blue, I'm starting to redo most of my black frames. This was a dollar store frame that I primed and painted white, rubbed distressing ink (Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads - Antique Linen) over the whole frame with a paper towel. Podged some jute around the corners, used E6000 to glue down the starfish and the little starfishes too.

Leopard Print Frame & Candle

First time I've had to be creative in a week, and I have tons of projects all over my kitchen. Which I do need to clean up here soon because it's getting late and someone prolly might want to eat dinner lol. Out of all the half projects that I have going today, I did finish this frame and candle set. My bedroom is done in safari prints, so when I start reorganizing in there, I want to add a new shelf. I have a zebra set almost done, and started the giraffe one also. For those that are curious, I used a $1.00 frame from Michael's, paper from JoAnn's, and a prayer candle from Dollar Tree.

Jar of Hearts

Have you heard the song "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri? I would even claim it could be my song of the moment. The lyrics are on the sad side, but the music is beautiful. So it hits me the other night, why not make a jar of hearts for V-Day?! Ok, the theory only had something to do with the title, but I thought maybe it will be a good project.

I had purchased a bag of assorted heart sizes from Michael's (I'm using the small ones) and I'm using Craftsmart brand paint, color is Holiday Red. So here I sit painting these small hearts asking myself what was I thinking?! My fingers are coated in red paint, and instead of seeing stars, I'm seeing hearts. Thankfully this stuff is washable or I'd be going to work tomorrow looking like...well, I don't know...messy maybe lol. Here's a picture so far.

Ok, I'm to the point that if I see another heart, I'll cry lol. Scott says that there aren't near enough in there. I told him grab a brush and some paint! Just need to make myself a label for the top...another heart I'm sure lol.

Roses with Black Frame

Is it possible to ever die while you wait for your craft to dry?! I had to start this post just so I'd leave my frame alone lol. I've seen so many of these frames around blogland that I thought I'd try to put my own spin on it as much as possible.



I started out with the basics: frame (Michael's $1.00), acrylic paint (black - $2.00 for that huge bottle), foam brush (a whole 7 cents), and of all things, a spoon holder for a palette. What was even better is I had a 20% off coupon for my whole purchase =) Anyway, I painted about an inch around the front, the edges, and all of the back because I have the type of friends that will prolly pick it up and flip it over, and I'd die if it wasn't all the way painted!! I had picked up these cute wordarts from Michael's too ($1.00). The catch is they're already painted. I should have sanded them down a bit, I didn't realize how hard it would be to cover pepto pink. What seemed like twenty coats later, I finally have it to my satisfaction. Just debating if I want to Mod Podge it or not. In this picture the letters aren't completely done just so you could see the lovely pink shade.

Now all the paint is dry, I've cut out my lovely rose paper, Mod Podged my frame, stuck on paper, and because I don't have a brayer (added to shopping list), I used his old debit card. I just coated the top of the paper, and I'm anxiously waiting for it to dry.





Well, it dried, and I hate the results. Because someone has borrowed my exacto knife, I had to use a box cutter and it made the edges crappy. So...out comes the nail files. I sanded down the edges of the paper, but I still didn't like it, and I didn't like the Mod Podge finish. I had bought an extra sheet of that rose paper thankfully, so I cut out another one, cutting out the center part first this time. Mod Podged it on, and still wasn't pleased. Used a coarser grit nail file on the edges, a little better. Then I had an idea. I painted around the edges of the frame and rubbed the paint a little for a distressed, inked type of edges. I so love it now, but I don't want to seal it with the Podge...

Wasn't quite sure still about the letters. I Podged the back of the frame and letting it dry to see how it turns out. So 20 minutes later, didn't really see a difference, so now I'm waiting on the letters to dry.

Used Gorilla Glue's Super Glue and glued the letters to the frame, and I couldn't be happier now. I just love how this turned out!!

Anniversary Wordle

I've been seeing all of these wonderful wordles around lately, and I remember using it ages ago for something fun, but I've found new uses. I made one for my anniversary in shades of red and pink and printed it out on white cardstock and put it into one of those lovely Dollar Tree frames. I'm thinking though it's kinda plain. Scott suggested putting it into a smaller frame. Which means a trip to the dollar store because I don't want to have to dig through my whole collection to find a 5x7. I need other stuff anyway, so never hurts to stop in lol. I also thought about taking some rose petals and putting them in the frame too. I just don't know. Anyway, I thought maybe someone might like to use the wordle, so you can download it here. It prints 8x5 an a 1/4 ish. No, measuring is not my strong point. Neither is math. That's why I have a hubby. It's his job! If you make anything with it, would you mind commenting with the link. I would love to see how someone else can spice it up.

Hi, I'm Debbie and I'm...

...addicted to napping lol. I have a to-do list a mile long, and all I have done each night after work this week is nap!! Now how am I supposed to get anything done?! *sigh* Tonight I decided no nap for me. Well, okay, technically I'm off tomorrow and I don't have to get up before the rooster does, but that's besides the point that I get to sleep in. I did clean out a drawer in my dresser tonight, all went in a bag for my gf that is dying to get her hands on my closet. Not sure what she finds so interesting in there, but she wants to help me clean it out. I don't think so. I'd cry. She'd take things that I love, like that, and that, and oh definitely that. Or worse, she'd take pictures of what it really looks like and post them on Facebook. *shrieks* I did get a couple of simple projects done though.

In case you have been hiding in a cave (and it's prolly clean and organized), these four lovely glass pieces came from my local Dollar Tree. Actually so did the filler for the three vases in the second picture. I bought the wood pieces parts bags awhile ago, and had them in a basket, but it was overflowing, so this was the perfect place to put them. And I love rocks. Yes, always have. I can remember being a little kid and picking up rocks that I loved and felt needed rescued from anyone's house that had a gravel driveway. I know, I had issues. They've only increased in price since then too. The issues, not the rocks. I would love to credit the one individual that came up with this idea, but I bet I've seen it on a hundred blogs that I've quietly stalked.

I also ran around the house with a small tote and emptied all of my junk bowls. Bowls? Yes. You have a junk drawer, I must fill every bowl instead. I put shells in the bowls in the dining room since it has a nautical theme. If I have stuff in them I'll be less likely to pile crap on top. The rest of the house I think I'm going to saran wrap to keep them empty. I'm kidding, don't worry. Well, I'm off to work on two more projects that I want to get done before my anniversary. Which reminds me, I need to buy a card...
